I’ve been freelancing for over 2 years now. It’s been an interesting journey and I’ve learned a lot. I definitely have to say that choosing to work for yourself is the harder way to go, but the payoff is much better. In personal, financial and educational ways.
Reflecting over the past two years I’ve had to become a jack of all trades: writing up contracts and terms of service, designing, marketing, negotiating, time management, programming, troubleshooting, rushing, human resources and balancing regular life in between. In truth for the amount of work I put into this business, I would have probably made more money working for someone else, but I wouldn’t have had the freedom and the experience I now enjoy, and the sky is the limit, not my paycheck. I am my own boss. For me, that’s what it’s all about. For other’s the security of a job is theirs to claim. That’s not a bad thing either. It’s apples and oranges. Whatever you prefer.
